Table Covering: Will be provided by the school.
Set-up: Set up time- 30 minutes - less if there are more volunteer helpers.
Volunteers/helpers needs: I will bring one helper with me to help set-up, and to pour and pass out paints. Any other helpers with this process will speed things up. If each teacher can be with their classes that will help as well.
Supplies to be provided: 9x12 canvases, cups for water, plates for paint, paint, instruction, Canvases will be flat to the table and not on an easel.
Water: I will need access to water for the cups and somewhere to pour the paint water after painting has commenced.
Supplies needed, but not provided: Paper covering for tables. This can be bulletin paper. If possible set-up before (if you need me to help or do it, let me know) Aprons, smocks, art shirts are not provided.
Project Steps Overview:
Step 1: The canvases are first painted in a solid color.
Step 2: I will talk to them about Vincent van Gogh then warm and cool colors. We will go back to looking at The Starry Night and identify the big circle swirls and really look at the brush strokes. Step 3: Back on our canvases, we will then map out the concentric circles (I will explain what those are) with a pencil. This will be the framework for our painting - everyone will have similar, but different pictures
Step 4: The students will then get their paints and new brush strokes and paint their painting. This is a great project for individual expression. At this time I will be walking around, modeling the brush strokes.
