Session 2: ARTIST STUDY
This 4-week journey through famous artists will spark your child’s creativity while exploring autumn’s colors! Your artist will experiment with brushwork, color mixing, and pattern-making while creating their own fall masterpiece each week.
Each weekly session includes a short, interactive lesson introducing a new concept, followed by a guided demonstration and plenty of time for hands-on creation. We encourage a process-based approach, which means that the focus is not on creating a “perfect” finished product, but rather on learning, experimenting, and finding joy in the creative journey. Projects will include drawing, painting, collage, and/or mixed media, allowing each child to explore a wide variety of tools and materials.
Here's a glimpse of what our four weeks together might look like:
🍂 Week 1 – Vincent Van Gogh: Swirly Fall Skies
We’ll look at Van Gogh’s amazing “Starry Night” and see how he makes the sky move! Then we’ll paint our own magical fall sky, swirling with wind and colorful falling leaves. Big brushstrokes, bright colors, and tons of texture!
🍁 Week 2 – Georgia O’Keeffe: Bold Fall Colors
Georgia O’Keeffe loved painting flowers so big they filled the whole canvas! We’ll use her style to zoom in on one beautiful autumn leaf and it up-close so we can see all its tiny details and colors.
🌈 Week 3 – Alma Thomas: Patchwork of Fall Colors
Alma Thomas made art that looked like colorful mosaics made from tiny brushstrokes. We’ll create a fall forest filled with patterns, using warm colors and little dashes of paint that look like a patchwork quilt of autumn leaves.
🎃 Week 4 – Yayoi Kusama: Dots, Dots, Pumpkins!
Yayoi Kusama loves polka dots—and so will we! We’ll design a big, bold pumpkin covered in playful patterns and dots. We can even sneak in swirls from Van Gogh, zoomed-in shapes from O’Keeffe, or colorful dashes from Alma Thomas.
This 4-week program is more than just art—it’s a chance for young learners to build confidence, express themselves, and develop a lifelong appreciation for creativity.
